I very well know there is no formula to dating, but we all have some expectation out of what we want, anyways I do, I don’t know about y’ all. I live in an area where Ethio’s are ‘berKeye ensesa,’ even though they might be bountiful within a couple of hours of driving.
However long I have been out of Addis, I still feel like something is missing in my relationships whenever I am dating outside of my community. However the sex might be bangin, I still ache for the forbidden words in AmariGNa. However the kiss might be toe curlin’, I still crave for the littl’ whispers of ‘yene Konjo’ and ‘Yene Emebet’. I know, I know…Could easily be replaced by ‘hon’ and ‘babe’…Ene Yemaweraw sele Amerkinetu Newe. Anchi Degmo Kekalte Newe Ende Fiker Yeyazeshe Endatelugne,…Kemola Godelun Malete Newe…..
On top of that I have a schedule that leaves little room for mingling. So what to do? What to do? When I had a brilliant Idea…online dating!!!! After all my friend/ classmate has been married for several years, and she met her husband online. The problem is they r not habeshas….maybe, maybe, maybe…. Continue reading ‘Online Karma’

Inflation; the process in which prices of goods and services increases through a period of time. Usually the rate of inflation is measured annually for most if not all currencies.
Here in bernos our European customers have even suggested that our prices are cheap in comparison to what they pay at the Gap or where ever it is they shop. The fact is the American dollar has been losing its value over the past four years or so and giving our European expatriates as they saying goes ‘more bang for the dollar.’
We all know what it is and I am sure we have experienced it. I remember once counting 37,000 drachmas and thinking “wow that that is a lot of money.”

*sigh*
A strong woman, feminist, independent, goal oriented.
I have a right!
“You have a right dammit!”, my alter ego emphasizes.
Or do I?
It only took less than 1 min for conception
BUT 10 days for the verdict.
For a split second, I was happy.
The idea of something so precious was given unto me.
Precious, something not to be taken away.
I felt ready for it.
“No, are you crazy?! Think about your career, you’re PARENTS!” Continue reading ‘Giving Up’

Happy endings included! I was out with the boys when it was mentioned that Abesha girls were offering sensual services for monetary compensation here in no other than Washington DC.
A massage parlor although technically and legally meaning ‘a place where a customer receives therapeutic massage;’ is in tradition and reality synonymous with a brothel or bordello.
You see a massage is a euphemism for sexual favor, the extent of which depending on the provider. In the US prostitution is strictly illegal although available in almost every city, as far as I know. There is the street walker, the escort or the call girl services as in Madam Heidi Fleiss ; Nevada ranches and last but not least and most importantly the massage parlor.
As in most males in the living in the US I have the experience of one form of prostitution or another. I once tagged along to an Asian operated massage parlor with the boys; once the shower and massage was finished, the lady asked if I wanted a happy ending for fifty dollars. Indeed it was although I didn’t like the feeling of paying for sex favors thus I declined.
I also have experience with call girls; although I was offered for the full enchilada I declined expressing my interest in just watching and other services.

So I guess it was around early 2007 when I first stumbled upon bernos. I remember I found the link on a random post in the ESAi forum, someone saying it was a cool site. So, I went ahead and clicked. And suddenly, without prelude or agenda I found myself swimming in the depths of the Ethiopian blogosphere or whatever else people call it. I am sure many connected Ethiopians have had this kind of experience because there are so many sites out there and so many people in different corners of the world.
It seems some use these online spaces (webzines, networking sites, forums…) to keep up with information, social events, for entertainment, to socialize or online dating platforms. For some it’s a way to seek connection with the ‘community’, or get a window for virtual connections with people that have similar interests and perspectives. Its is also an experience going for a leisurely trip around the pool and meeting people with similar cultural backgrounds through sites like bernos, esai and others. Given, meeting them in person is a whole different paradigm to meeting online.
