Fara Things… 57 Comments

Technology changes how society interacts, people who used to call each other in the evening and on weekends just 15 years ago, now can keep in contact from anywhere and anytime.

Emails help people from all over the world get to know each other and keep in touch.

Dating is changed; there are not two steps before getting the digits which leads to the phone call. It might be too soon to call, thus you email and then chat and then get the phone number. But don’t call! Text first!

You don’t have to hang out with his/or her friends to get to know them, you can just check out his Facebook photos to find out what they do when they are together. Continue reading ‘Fara Things…’

A Waitress Dilemma 215 Comments

I volunteered to write a column about my Abesha restaurant experience on Bernos after reading Nolawi’s very recent entry about Kitfo. I emailed Bernosoch and got myself nominated for the task. Even though I did not get the excitement and enthusiasm I expected from the Bernosoch, they nonetheless promised to publish my piece…I thank u!

I did not think I would be on the other side of the table in this restaurant. Bekka I just never saw myself as a waitress especially not in an Abesha restaurant. But the opportunity presented itself at the time I was so desperate for money. Of course my desire to work there was met with a strong resistance from my family due to the bias about Abesha restaurant waitresses.

I took the job anyways and I have a love and hate relationship with it. I have learned a great deal, I have truly enjoyed my time spent with my colleagues…and I witnessed the true definition of multitasking from the girl who works in the kitchen! Continue reading ‘A Waitress Dilemma’

Weird in Africa! 111 Comments

I find myself reading the weirdest things on the net. I thought I would share some of the things I find about on Africa every once in a while.

Inflation in Harare — a year ago I wrote about the inflation in Zimbabwe is whacking normalcy out of place. And now a teacher says that he can’t afford to work. Apparently the rate of his pay is decreasing on weekly because of fast fluctuations in inflation.

Charcoal Ban in Chad — N’djamena officials apparently banned the use of charcoal in an effort to halt tree-cutting for fuel, which they said was essential to fight desertification. Now Chadians must find other ways to cook with out charcoal, and everyone is using furniture, cow dung, and trash. Continue reading ‘Weird in Africa!’

A Kitfo Dilemma 872 Comments

Don’t get me wrong I like Kitfo, especially good Kitfo. But this has to be the second most ordered food at Ethiopian Restaurants when Ethiopians attend.

Here in DC, Dama Restaurant by public consensus has the best Kitfo; possibly in the whole US of A.

Kitfo is good but I am tired of ordering it, every time I go to Ethiopian Restaurants.

It also gets somewhat awkward when you are about to order, one of the guys likes his cooked, others like it TireA, and others Leb Leb.

I think cooked Kitfo is great, but there are times I like it completely TireA. Continue reading ‘A Kitfo Dilemma’

@ the Inaugration 52 Comments

They said record crowds, a moment in history and so on. So I went after a friend urged me. Although I was not looking to standing in the cold for hours, as I have done it a few times.

I have seen Obama a few times, at critical moments including the night before the election with 100,000 people.

Yesterday was crazy, I mean really crazy. The amount of people was astounding. Continue reading ‘@ the Inaugration’
