Half Way In between… 19 Comments

A generation gap, a cultural gap….

Here is an issue that is most often not addressed but existent. Everyone talks about how they all went through culture-shock coming to "Wuch Ager" and how the young ones are fortunate because they can "fit" into the new environment easily…..and blah blah blah…

But a couple of months later…They are bitterly complaining about these same kids.

I find it sad when teenagers are going astray and having an identity crisis because their parents/relatives/guardians are walking around saying "Ahunema aysemanem…911 biterabegnes" and miss the important point of trying to bond with their kids in this new environment and try to understand them. It is no secret that immigrating to other countries is harsher for people in their 40s, 50s and above, but it is even more life-threatening for youngsters caught in between the Habesha culture they have been raised in and the Western values that they become an adult in. Not quite fitting in either one. Continue reading ‘Half Way In between…’

The Alien Ethiopian! 36 Comments

When I was asked about a week ago, how the designs for the new set of Bernos shirts are going, and I responded by saying well.

scroll face We drew up concept after concept and showed them around. Most received bilateral reactions. We wanted to proceed with designs that had mass appeal from the group of people we show the concepts too.

Consequently, I told her that we had one concept with the Ethiopian Alien Face; for which she responded by showing her confusion. I showed her the Face, she insisted by saying that she didn’t see it. Continue reading ‘The Alien Ethiopian!’

Ene Yemelew Eko… 10 Comments

I've been visiting this blog for awhile now. I find most of the articles interesting and engaging. However, I noticed not much thought is given to current events. Thus, I felt it’s my duty to make sure we stay in touch.

This should at least make Selam LeHulachen happy.

Seriously though, I was listening to talk radio two days ago and the topic at hand was Foley. For those of you who are not up to date with the events of Congress, Foley is a congressman who was recently found exchanging emails/IMs of a sexual nature with a sixteen year old boy. The kicker is Foley is part of lobby to congress that deals with bills that protect children from child molesters. In addition, he was one of the spearheads in the Clinton condemnation for his acts towards Monica Lewinsky. It is now also being said that Foley is gay, an alcoholic, and molested as a child. There has been no evidence of the latter two.   Continue reading ‘Ene Yemelew Eko…’

ALONE OR LONELY? 249 Comments

A woman or a man goes to a show, dinner, or a movie alone and it's a problem or maybe she/he is lonely. What’s wrong with having some space and just chilling by yourself?

Sometimes, I love going places alone because I meet new people and most of the time I have more fun than going out with someone I know. I love vacationing alone, going to dinner alone, going to the movies ALONE and I'm never LONELY. I have plenty of family and true friends that love me. I make sure they are never left out of the experience because I share every detail with them and my journal. I still can’t figure out what the problem is.

Even in a relationship he always thinks I'm going out to meet someone and as usual my cell blows up with messages and questions of my whereabouts. My reply is always something like, “Come on dude I’m dating you not tattooed on you. If I want to cheat I can do that in the comfort of my own home and who’s gonna stop me?” End of discussion! All I want is sometimes, just sometimes to be left alone to enjoy my life. Am I so wrong or is it the world that’s got it twisted? Continue reading ‘ALONE OR LONELY?’

Ye Nazareth Fabirca Setoch! 630 Comments

The Fabirica I referring to is Nazareth School. Over the past five or so years I’ve had the honor of meeting girls from the above mentioned school.

Forgive the generalization, because generalizations are never 100% accurate. Still though, I love generalizations because they are truthful in their intent. The intent being to simplified truth. I am going to stress this point because I truly feel generalizations are factual. Here is a good example of a proper generalization:

A car is a generalization of sedan because every sedan is a car.”

You can’t argue with that not being accurate. Consequently, I’m going to try to make my main point. Continue reading ‘Ye Nazareth Fabirca Setoch!’
