Danger Comments

In my mind visually
I supersede the thoughts
and now I am left
with tools of Mental freedom
So don’t step to me as IF
I know more than
What you think you know
Because thinking is a dedication
Never a normal process
In different planes
Won’t even speak English
If I did not have to
Let me mention it again
I am not here because of u
I have BEEN
educated
exist self sufficiently
Nothing you can’t do
to stop
me!

How to Ask Ethiopian Girls Out? 3,631 Comments
Dating

I am not an expert, however, I’ve learned a few things over the years. Sure, it might seem like I am a talker and not an observer but I do listen. A rough guesstimation assures me that about a quarter of my conversations are about dating.

This is a topic everyone seems to be interested in. Even family members are asking questions, Meche nuew YeMe’tagebaw? (?? ?? ???????) Maybe two years after I meet her! How can I ask her to marry me before I meet her? Esti tinesh common sense people! I am not David Blaine.

Male friends that are single complain about the etrete (????) of female companions or about how the ones available are Guregna?   The more sophisticated say that the ladies are stuck up. Some that are in relationships complain about how they are being treated or the girls they missed opportunities with. I guess some girls do not shop in the single men aisle! ESFNA finds: bole 2 harlem 42 Comments

 b2h cover art

I was at the 23rd Ethiopia Soccer Federation in North America celebration. It was very good. I was introduced to many new young Ethiopian Hip Hop artists. Of which I was very much impressed with a group called Bole 2 Harlem. I saw the group perform live in the LA coliseum.  The vocalist, Mike has some nice moves.  Ehem She belew.  Seriously a true performer.

Apparently they went from Bole to Harlem as the name says. They must have used yeaddisaba taxi because you can hear the Woyala screaming ‘harlem harlem…’  in the sampled track.

The CD was packaged very well. The cover art was amazing; better than any CD cover art I’ve ever seen coming out of Addis in recent years excluding the Ethiopique series. See picture above.

Hint: If you are an musical artist; don’t hesitate to contact a decent graphic designer even if the costs are high. This is my professional opinion.
Is Working Together Un-Ethiopian? 27 Comments

Ethio coin

This is not a sermon on why Ethiopia is left behind while the rest of the Africa is moving forward. This insight is established upon direct experiences with the Ethiopian community in the United States.

More than one variable is a managed for a business venture to flourish. Furthermore, different industries have unique variables to tackle. Simply, it’s rough out there. Nevertheless, Ethiopians are venturing off on their own; built on both Ethiopians and  non-Ethiopians as objective target market. And they are becoming more successful in their business endeavors. The United States is astutely labeled as the land of opportunities, as it is and should be for Ethiopians as well.

The continually increasing purchasing power of Ethiopians in the United States offer entrepreneurs an opportunity to successfully target niche markets in the community. As the purchasing power of Ethiopians is increasing, it gives Ethiopians an easier opportunity to be successful as a businessperson with a niche market already established.

The procurement of Africans is growing and corporations are taking notice. Case in point, both Moneygram and Western Union have marketing divisions targeting African immigrants as well as a subdivision for Ethiopians. To the point even an Ethiopian took notice and has started competing against them.(see EMT Money Tranfer) Sprint PCS has both a Hispanic and African immigrant division. The targeted promotions include direct web-advertising, sponsorships and print advertising. Properly tapped, the marketing budgets of these corporations are enough to support small businesses, like magazines and websites. Small Americans businesses generate enough revenue from Ethiopians that they have stopped targeting other immigrants. i.e. Immigration lawyers, Real estate agents in Washington D.C.

While the triumph is increasing, the failure rate for Ethiopian businesspersons remains high, given the preference to remain as a sole-proprietor in their ventures. Unlike Americans who generally allocate various parts of business with partner(s) and or employees; Ethiopians favor remaining independent, explicitly, independently poor.

Get the drift? For instance artists Chachi Tadesse & Hamelmal Abate decided to distribute their latest albums themselves without professional distribution. Furthermore everything is done unprofessionally:

One cousin in Seattle will take care of dropping the CDs to all Seattle Abesha superstores.

No inventory control, no market research and no marketing strategy. The various musical production sites are mom & pop chop-shops for producing and distributing musical album. At least they take 100% of the profits. Here is a math lesson:

A 100% of zero is zero.
