I have lived in the US for the past thirteen years. In all my years here I had never left the country. Like most people I always wanted to travel and see the world, but just never got around to it. This year I decided it was time to see the world.
The past several months I traveled to three different countries; first to Mexico, next to Argentina and then to Greece. On my way back from Greece I noticed I have become more like an American. I have always looked at myself as an Ethiopian and nothing else.
Sure I lived in the US most of my life, but it never occurred to me to see myself as an American. I haven’t even applied for my citizenship yet.
In my trip to Greece I was surprised to hear my friends saying,
God, you’re such an American…”
They mentioned I was arrogant at times and unwilling to understand the ways of other countries. They also said I glorified America. In hindsight they are right. Our Year in Business
This past weekend we celebrated our one year anniversary. We can’t believe it’s already been a year since bernos came to life. In honor of this benchmark we wanted to share some of bernos milestones.
A year ago, we never would have thought we could write anything interesting enough that would draw an audience beyond our friends and family. We started the blog and soon found a voice and a passion that we hardly knew existed. Bernos would by no means have gotten to where it is without the bloggers who have welcomed us, challenged us, inspired us, and continue to give us the courage to try new things.

Last week I was sent an email saying that people Abesoch actually hookup online. The guy who sent me this, would like to stay anonymous but wanted to share his recent experience while meeting a girl online on the Bernos Press.

Beshou is always talking about music; you know,…about two weeks ago we started talking about bernos’s anniversary celebration music selection.
The bernos crew is actually more of an online crew, we meet but we don’t really meet. We are almost ever together… we have our monthly meetings minamin… with all of us together.. well not that much.
So really where we meet is online. We do one of those emails, where everything is replied to everybody. When we design the Bernos Tees, it’s online. When we start a project, it’s.. it’s online.
So ya, when we started talking about the music,… one would include everyone and send an email, and the discussion begins. One would be assigned with the task, and one would supplement that task and the others recommend their opinions. Continue reading ‘We gonna barty!’
