Last Thursday, which happens to be the day that our own Meron turns 22 years old, we went to celebrate it by organizing all her closest friends, presumably, to a dinner gathering.
We decided on having dinner at a famous local Moroccan spot her is DC. The whole enchilada, it’s a seven course meal but you don’t get to pick the food. Its standard with one choice, one of the entrée is either Lamb or Beef. We chose the latter.
Seven of us, and most of us had never met before.
They washed our hands, Ethiopian style and brought us a towel too, which is supposed to be used to wipe stuff, since we are suppose to eat most of the items by hand.
The also brought Meron a little sambusa with a firework candle attached to it, and a shot of a port wine like homemade Vino. And at the end, she got a certificate, saying in “its your birthday…” or something to that extent. I can’t read Arabic, but they write from the right to the left. Continue reading ‘Posers’
I first read about eLbie a few months back when I got an email with a link to her myspace page. I realized that I had seen her picture or met her or something.
At which point I started to read her blog, and I was hooked because she wrote about very personal stuff. Or as she says
i will mainly be discussing quick and fabuLous ways to feel fabuLous about yourself!!
Although her posts are ambiguous, she does describe what she is in the process of doing. She is and has made music. She has participated in a lot of modeling photo shoots and goes to fashion related events in New York City.
She describes herself as an African, and a musician. I have for the most part been captivated by the video diaries, seen above right after she got up, which I found to be very unique and daring because of how personal and unabashing she is or appears to be. Continue reading ‘fabuLous eLbie’
They are in my age range; they are from 26 to 31ish. They are educated, meaning atleast four years of college if not more. They are single, they make decent amount of cash!
They are in most cases emotionally independent!
They live in a large city, work in a large corporation! They have a lot of acquaintances, both males and females, and Africans and non-Africans.
They have been in a few serious relationships although it’s been a while. They have been hurt at least once and they are careful with their feelings. They are not prude sexually, nor are they close to being promiscuous.
They are good looking, but they are not models. They work out to stay in shape or are in shape. They are not superficial physically, both in their own appearance and in the guys they are interested in.
They are social, when it’s convenient although their lives are not filled with a lot of social events. They like being alone and they are content most of the time. Continue reading ‘Setochu’
I have been a reader of Bernos blogs for quite some time. I enjoy most of the writings here. I have always entertained the idea of submitting a piece but always fell short of this ambition. Part of it is my Mechem yeMaylakekegn sInfinA and the other part is finding a suitable topic that fits the regular Bernos tAdaMiwoch.
I wanted to submit a piece on fiqir and wutinQir in America but my very few and boring romantic adventures don’t qualify me as an expert on fiQirology. Nevertheless, I have a very long, on and off, sometimes steamy, sometimes frigid relationship far from romance that make me an expert in the fields of ChebsiOlogy. It is a long tale of a romantic relationship with a girl whom I first knew as Chilach.
I don’t remember the exact day when we embarked on this long and lasting relationship with her. But I clearly remember the first time I fell in love with her. I was probably 13 and she was just a small little draftChilach sitting alone on the cooler of the local Tennis Kibeb. I was perspiring and extremely dehydrated from the tennis I have been playing all day long. When I saw her and she saw me in that AC deprived hot lounge, it was love at first sight. Fresh made coffee, first thing in the morning, mmm I go through a lot of coffee. Picking up a newspaper on my way to lunch and reading the newspaper as I am eating and or waiting for it.
I love cookies, I grab a cup of tea around 2 or 3 pm and get some cookies out of the cupboard in my cubical and dunk it in the tea before I take a bite.
I now realize most of the things I love are associated with food. I like going out to eat with friends but I get restless if we have to sit for too long.
I like movies although not as much as I use too, I am finding them to be a little slower than in the past. I want a lot sensory input, lots of twist and turns. Continue reading ‘Open Thread II’
