Amharic Text Messaging? Comments

A company called FeedeliX is planning to offer a service via your cell phone carrier so that you may be able to text message in Amharic feedels. If you have Sprint, T-Mobil, Verizon or Cingular in the US; you may be able to use the service for a small fee. According to the website, the service seems like Geez Unicode fonts for the internet. It will be launched May 14th I hear.

What do you guys think? I think a service really worth checking out and even supporting. It’s a great feat not just from a technical but also afrom marketing angle; as making a deal with giants like Sprint and Verizon is an accomplishment in it self. It is showing us signs that the Ethiopian purchasing power in the US is growing. I suspect in the future we will see more giant organizations marketing directly to Ethiopians, in the last couple of years I have seen MoneyGram, and Calling Card corps advertise directly to Ethiopians. What’s next?

Anonymous Speaks Series: III Comments

Anonymous Speak Series Continued: I guess there is no certain rule that applies to all. We(men) probably have to conform to fit the preference of the woman that we are planning to date, I mean some girls wants to be friends before you ask them out and some want you to be straight up. How are we to know which type she is? Enclosed specimen 3.

Specimen 3: Late Twenties,  not Single.

1.      What misconception do you think Ethiopian males have about woman?

It’s very hard for me to talk about Ethiopian male in such a generalized way.  I believe it all depends on the person’s experiences with women, his upbringing, his family experiences and many other factors

2.      What qualities do you find attractive in a man; other than physical?

I can sit here and go through my wish list and say I want a man who is sensitive, kind, a good listener, one who likes to cuddle etc.  But I found that those qualities are actually attractive to us women because that’s how we express our feelings, and instead of trying to change men to be what they aren’t, I have learned to appreciate their unique and different ways of showing their love without assuming these “feminine” traits.  However, I like a man with a good heart and one who has a well founded respect for God.

3.      What is the difference between Guregna and Kurategna man?

I think Guregna is one who boasts about everything he is, he has and sometimes makes up stories that he thinks will make him appear more important and attractive than he really is. Kurategna, on the other hand is one who is reserved and takes his time before getting too personal and close with a stranger.  Most people who are labeled as Kurategna are actually very shy people, who just put on this face in order to hide their timidity.

4.      How do you like to be asked out?

I like it when a man knows what he wants and is straight forward Continue reading ‘Anonymous Speaks Series: III’

MIS Comments

mis understood and mis conceived
came to me one day
and told me this tale
of a young man persecuted
hanged, tortured and killed
by his own human kins
a loving man
standing alone on the air
with an aid of a rope
tied around his neck
his eyes filled with tears of blood
wondering why god has not saved him yet
believing as hard as thugs that lie
refusing to let go of that lie
still bleeding from his eyes
still looking desperately for that light
that does not exist
only seeing darkness
conditioned by the hallucinations on the sky
perceiving stars long gone
mythical figures of time…
