Ethnic Vixens 36 Comments

rihanna Kelis

I discovered myself having an appetite for latest rock-pop type of music by 'Ethnic Vixens' such as Rihanna, Kelis & Shakira. They are sexy in skimpy attire, but I hope that is not the unconscious motive for my newly acquired taste for ‘whatever their type of music is called.’

I heard Zeritu's interview in which she claimed that her influences included Brittany Spears & Backstreet boys. I remember thinking “why!” why non-Ethiopian influence? Second if it has to be non-Ethiopian; why not the likes of Sade, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, etc?

I deduce that I have continuously underestimated American/Western stimulus in global society. I crave for Zeritu to be inspired by what I have labeled as the ‘Ethnic Vixens.’ Yap Zeritu in skimpy clothing shaking her behind. Why not? She is sexy enough.

Conceivably you might have been informed of an ‘Ethiopian Viagra,’ a singer located here in Washington D.C. & infamously branded for her viagratic effect on the Ethiopian male specimen. I haven’t seen her yet, but I would like too.

Let me know if you find out where & when she is playing next. Don't worry, I'll take pictures and write a reveiw.

Once up on a day….. 22 Comments

It is not all ways that things which captivate attention of the whole world do occur. They are so seldom that we keep talking about them forever. Like Nazi and Second World War, 9/11 and Osama Biladen, Princess Diana and paparazzi Mandela and apartheid, Einstein and relativity, corporate scandal and Enron, tsunami and Indonesia…….in football Pele and Brazil, Brazil and world cup… But who knows, may be, we may add one entry to the above list on Tuesday. It seems impossible just like Mister Mandela becoming a president, but we never know, since 'Kwas' is 'debulbul', it can role to Ghana's side and we may talk about it forever.   .Once up one a day…… Ghana sent Brazil home……., who knows it might just happen, let us wait and see

Lay OFF! 251 Comments

Nolawi I would like to meet with you one on one. Ok, let’s go to Human Resources. Due to lack of work, we are unfortunately laying you OFF. Next friday will be your last day.

That was what happened to on May 2nd 2006. No if's and or but’s; my faith is in the hands of my employer. I took it as a blessing in disguise; but yes I was pissed. I had made a little home for me. It was comfortable even if the home was only an eight by eight cubical.

Yekochegn was my bookmarks and setting in my web browser. And ya I guess I’ll miss the people too, although I never saw anyone. I go there and at times leave without talking to anyone. All the conversation was through email. Days go by before I see my boss. BTW I thought he was my friend, my security blanket, I had a role in which he got promoted. So sure, I thought he would protect my job. At the end everyone only cares for themselves.

Blessing Indeed

So first thing is first; I worked for two & half years paid my taxes. It was the governments turn to pay me back. It’s called unemployment. Wow, they pay you while you sit at home drinking your buna.

I had underestimated myself. My nice cozy job had made me complacent. It was only one week before I got my first job offer. I didn’t know if I should be angry, because the timing was way off. I wanted to wait till after the soccer tourney in the la la land, before I go back to work.

The layoff timing was right, tinish World Cup soccer, the NBA Finals, ESFNA; maybe organize Bernos a bit and relax.

A week later another job offer; a small PR & Marketing firm in Rockville.  Again I wasn’t enthused but this was an opportunity I could pass up. What if I turn it down and nothing comes down the line. My life isn’t Texas No-Limit Holdem; I can’t fold almost every hand that I’m dealt.

Yes, so they called me on Friday. Nolawi, if you want the job it’s yours. Silly old I sent a thank you note through email; I must have been hanging out of forums too much since there were two grammatical errors in my email (one was spelling).

So they called right back: Nolawi do you know you made spelling mistakes on your email? Do you trouble communicating with the English language? WHAT!! I can’t believe it. How dare they? Continue reading ‘Lay OFF!’

What troubles me most about Americans right now is the obtuse stories told by myriad of journalists about World Cup pieces. Most of the stories in the sports editorials in the past couple of weeks have been about why the US doesn’t appreciate the World Cup.

For examples “The Ignorant American's Guide to the World Cup,” starts out by saying:

I don't know much about soccer. I realize that it is, by a wide margin, the world's most popular sport. I'm told that players can't use their hands…

Well, if you don’t know then shut up; spare us the BS. Stick to pigskin football! Make sure you let us know the scores. Beqa!
