Fikres Ende Bizu! 281 Comments

If you have never been in love stop reading right now. You will never get it! Have ever felt pain? A pain caused by love! I once heard the below quote in a play:

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

A great poem, written over a hundred fifty years ago, to have loved and lost; a true lost love, it’s powerful and it’s painful but "Tis" worth it. You feel alive; it gives you a certain boost, as if there is more to life than eating and sleeping, then dying. Aye there is love!

I feel it, I feel the love, I feel the pain, I feel all types of emotions when I listen to her resonate. My beloved all time Ethiopian singer. For a couple of months, I have wanted to podcast a couple of Bizuyes songs. Three weeks ago I compiled all 23 songs I could get on MP3 into two CDs so that I could pick 2.

Well, after listening to them over and over and over. I couldn’t pick, I just couldn’t pick two. It’s everything, the lyrics, the turumba, her gurorro! And what a gurorro!

I think what he could have done to her for her to say those words.

EyeQeseQesekegn fikrehe, EyeQeseQesekegn fikrehe, sineQa aTegebe aTahuhe… Sal’emeh wuyey, Sal’emeh aderalehu.

When she finally does get some sleep, he comes in her dreams. Such brilliant cry, podcasted is EyeQeseQesekegn fikrehe. Continue reading ‘Fikres Ende Bizu!’

coffee beans

This pair of maps show the global presence of Starbucks coffee shops and McDonald's restaurants. When examined graphically, both companies act as global hubs that connect some of the world's poorest, most remote countries with some of the wealthiest.

Starbucks Map

There was only around 1000 Starbucks in the mid-90s and around 6000 today. An increase of only 6x, yet the bar for today is probably around 100x the size of the bars in the mid-90s.

The majority American junk food lovers are happy to see this report, Thank god for them Starbucks & McD's. are all over the world. I can't imagine having to take a vacations without thier coffee or McSlop burger! Continue reading ‘Buna Anyone?’

Ethiopian Baby

A friend asked me to go out with him. He was meeting a couple of ladies for a drink. The drink happened to be dinner, and since I already had dinner, I ordered my favorite; Chivas straight that is.

After one [drink] the conversation turned, I passionately started to explain what's wrong with Ethiopia. I backed up my data with some stats and how population control is the key, minamin.

We were laughing, but I was the only one talking. Beqa people need to stop having kids; Birth control condoms! One per couple is enough! Get a condom! After pill whatever it takes. Heck, vasectomy is reversible!

If you can’t get a babysitter, don’t come out, it’s probably a good sign that you didn’t need to have a baby in the first place. I am tired of this Abesha’s bringing their little midgets to weddings or plays or comedy shows. Little midgets crying and running around, I can’t concentrate. On my wedding no one under 18 is allowed to come. Bring your ID’s! I don’t care if in Ethiopia you are 20!

Shit, I plan not to have any kids, because everyone else in my family had more than their quotas. Ye’derg gize sugar was supplied by controlled dististribution; by rationing or as they say sekuar be'ration eko nuew Hulet makia bicha! That was good population control. A household was only allowed a certain amount of sugar; perhaps that explains why Ethiopians have sugar fixation. I hate getting coffee 7 eleven because it takes like 12 packets for me to have enough. Continue reading ‘Name a Midget!’

Selam Hiz’boche – I am back! Back yet again to bask in the glory that is Wondinet Haile and my inner workings.

Endete SenebetaceHulegn, I come here to the land of Bernoswoch to talk to you about a great concern.

The word update has been forgotten from the Amharic vocabulary. Ethio-ladies have been sporting the same hairstyle since 1996. Why just the other day I was sitting in my new Toyota Camry sipping on Starbucks Latte when I saw two girls walking on the side walk. Even though I didn’t have my contact lenses on and 50 yards away, the two silhouettes screamed Abesha Setoch. Continue reading ‘time you update!’

Several Developments over the last couple of weeks; Bernos has really grown. So much so, that as of this week we are averaging over 1000 visitors a day. Not page loads but actual visitors, all of whom spend over 2 minutes browsing. We have 63 feed subscribers and 288 email subscribers.

A testament to power of the network is; when I asked our readers to contribute five dollars for the AFC kids cause, they donated 260$ within 6 days. We have received 13 hate emails regarding our post on Abeba Lakew song; I guess some people must love such crappy music. We were asked to review music by the likes of Hamelmal Abate, Feker Sound, Chachi Taddesse, and Melakamu Tebeje all of whom gave us free CD’s. Ethio Jazz brought musical content that really matters that our pages have been graced Francis Falcetto himself. A cartel is broken; one Injera producer is selling Injera at five dollars.

Working together is Ethiopian; I was really enthused to hear that Habeshahookup and now extinct Habeshathing are merging. Both are social networking sites, which connect young “Habesha’s” together.  A real verification for young “Habesha’s” aged under 22 wanting to interact with each other; an untapped territory of young Ethiopians that even organizations such like ESAi was not able to make use of. The total number of users will exceed 5000; this is a real tool to reach otherwise unreachable group of young people. (most of these kids are and will continue to be on Facebook & MySpace) Continue reading ‘Developments…’
