right back atchya! 47 Comments

How many times do I hear my sister, telling everyone she talks to, every darn morning,

congratulations you’ve made it to today?

Too many times! She says it with a chirpy voice like she’s giving you the winning lotto numbers. My answer to her is always “right back atchya.” Does this woman ever give up? No! Her husband usually follows with, “ditto!” and her son, “congratulatin u male it to tolay.

I asked her once, “why oh why do you have to say that to everyone, everyday?” her answer, “why not? aren’t you happy you made it to today?” Smart ass! My sister, my best friend….don’t let me run into her before I’ve had my coffee, arghhhhhh; she may not like my response. What ever happened to good morning, good afternoon, or good evening?

I made fun of her one day and said “if I want the Brady bunch I’ll reach for the remote until then, quiet on the set!” She tried to be cute and started singing…it’s a story of a man named Brady…ha ha Continue reading ‘right back atchya!’

The way I recall it!

ethiopian-stamp

It’s rectangular and it has red and blue. It has a certain worked look to it. It was old. It’s not jut an envelope, it’s a letter.

Do you recall the trip to the “posta bet?

We went, if I remember correctly, about once a month. The building was in front of Tiqur Anbessa hospital on Chur Chur Godana. It was huge very huge, or it represented something very very huge! The building was black and silver, if there was sun then it was shinny. I liked going up the stairs and then looking for our number.

Ezhiga nuew y’enga”

Peculiarly, every body’s mail no not mail but ‘letters’ went to the same building. There were some people that didn’t have their own Posta SaT’ine so they would receive their mail through zemeds.

Now that I think about it, the whole system was very antiquated! What were not antiquated were the stamps. The stamps were amazing! My sister had a stamp book; she would collect all the stamps from all the letters everyone received. Continue reading ‘Posta!’

Kebebush’s Mood

I think Kebebush from the Bernos Press (aka BP) is in love! Out of no where, she tells me she has an idea for an article.

aster.jpg

The idea? A podcast of love songs by Aster Aweke The truth is Kebebush is a Graduate school student and with papers and exams creeping behind her on a regular basis has no time to write any blogs or be in love for that matter. At any rate, I thought her idea was wonderful. She did most of the work. She sent me a stream of her favorite Aster love songs. When I saw the link I was hoping and praying the songs were not

from Aster’s album featured HERE. To my utter delight, Kebebush only used the originals. The songs she picked are as follows:

1) Munaye

2) Fikere (Shesheg Belilign)

3) BeFiker Lay Fiker

4) Eshururu

100 Bernos Ethiopian Millennium Tshirts on sale!

We talked and talked about it; we teased you and annoyed you. Enough, it’s here!

When we said only 100 Millennium T-shirts, the Bernos Blog and our email inbox was bombarded questioning ‘why.’ I think we have answered it for the most part, but we would like to add that we are not in ’the business of the masses.’

We are a small group of creative abesha’s producing and providing products that are indisputably quality in most if not all aspects. We are perfectionists in process, from concept to production to presentation. From the drawing room to the shooting room 1 to customer service; yup we upped our game this time!

….the concept for the 3rd release Ethi-Milli Bernos photo-shoot was to convey the message that ‘ the Ethiopian woman making her stance felt in this upcoming millennia.‘ Setting her foot down and making it known that she too can be domineering. As for the Ethiopian man, he is taking a step back and is confident enough to let her take the lead. The models were great and cooperated to make this shoot better than anticipated” 1beshou

We are growing, people are hearing, some are buying and the rest are complaining. Did I say we are perfect? No, we are not, we try hard, we are persistent! But perfect we are not!

We lack! We lack patience; we are already talking about the next step before this step. This thing we are doing, as small as it is… takes time, money and resources.

Meanwhile the inbox is filling up! One of the most consistently asked questions was sizing issue. We did not know there are double extra large sized Ethiopians. Well, we think some of them just like bulel yale tshirt, nonetheless we’ve fixed it. From now , we will produce & provide ‘XXL’ sized Bernos tshirts.

The next complaint, which we consider somewhat spam is inventory; it seems Bernos Tshirts are apparently a hot commodity and selling out fast. We can aid you there as well, we will inform you, we just can’t help you. Continue reading ‘We're late, but we're here!’

Save your “no-duh” comment, but I am from Africa. I have been in the states for years and with the exception of my juvenile years, I have always identified myself as an African American. I have the utmost respect for my fellow African Americans who excel in every aspect of life. I have always been grateful for the sacrifices they have made for me so that I and many others like me will pick ourselves from the dust of the Sahara desert and claim our identity.I have been following up the Imus controversy intently since the beginning last Friday.

He said, perhaps the most deplorable things to our fine African American ladies. It is irreprehensible that broadcasting giants like Imus use such demeaning phrases to show their hypocrisy. However, it is also important that we, as Black people in America, ought to see things in perspective. By some accounts, Don Imus probably does more good than just one slip of a tongue! His charitable work in the past, especially with the African American kids, has been simply remarkable.
