We, Ethiopian Americans, are not a powerful voting bloc. How can we be? There isn’t even an estimate of how many there are. Nor are we Obama’s constituents yet.
I’ll also bet (albeit just a dollar) that the signature was printed on too.

you have a good point and that’s exactly why we are collecting data on Ethiopian community voting pattern, voting history, number of voters, etc… so that we can back our claim with some concrete numbers. i think by the end of this election cycle, we’ll have a pretty good idea of where the community at large is at.
Also something to think about dotmike – even though the number might be high – it doesn’t mean we can necessarily vote..
the number of american citizens with Ethiopian origins might be less than 30% of the number of Ethiopian Americans.

I disagree with the notion that only 30% of Ethiopians in America are US citizens. I think Ethiopians run to get their citizenship at the first opportunity to bring a relative over if not to vote. What .mike and his buddies have to make these people see is that they stand a better chance of getting all the perks that come with being a US citizen if they vote.

Gore lost to Bush in 2000 by less than 500 votes….i think there are more than 500 Ethiopians in the US. Our vote makes a difference, if only 500 Ethiopians in Florida thought the same thing, Bush would still be in Texas instead of DC.
And the letter from Obama, it was HISTORIC. A presidential candidate has never acknowledged us EVER. This might be a baby step for us, but we will get there.

Just out of curiosity, what was the odds of Ethiopians coming out the victor in Adwa? As I have said before in one of the posts, I am for Obama but these over zealous attitudes must stop….he is just a better choice than McCain. There should be no romantic ideas of he is this and that.
