I don’t watch day-time TV, although I flip through channels. A while back I saw a Nicole Kidman interview on one of those shows with a bunch of ladies.
She walked in a size 2 dress and no cheeks on her face, just cheek bones. I suppose super skinny is sexy, but it just doesn’t fit on a 40 plus year old woman. The collar bones were sticking out and she looked like a mannequin from Saks Fifth Avenue.
And that is the first thing the interviewer asked her; what is your secret?
‘She said she doesn’t eat!’
A friend who I just met recently told me, that she lives on Mangos, & that is her secret of looking good in her early 30’s; living on fruits.
Beshou doesn’t eat dinner; no dinner at all because if she eats at night, she won’t be able to sleep. This is just one way she keeps a figure slim, I guess.
I went to a friend’s house in the evening and he offered me cereal. He said he eats cereal for dinner in order to keep from gaining weight. I was like no thanks, I rather not eat.
Beqa, the many secrets, barely eat anything and you will get used to it and then you can slim down.

I eat dinner as soon as i get get home from work around six except the day i’m exercising. I eat snacks if im hungry but that’s about it and i sleep peacfully. I’m not doing this to lose weight, i just don’t like sleeping with full stomach.

After being skinny with NO apetite for most of my life and hating it….. I suddenly started EATING for real after my trip to Ethiopia 1.5 year ago!!!!!
And am very happy with my new weight gain & my body & apetite.
After almost crying after every gibja or restaurant back home, for my lack of apetite now I eat what I want when I want!! And am very happy….. I know now its time to slow down or at least watch what I eat …but I LOVE my new body & feel more like a woman, finally!!

my worries is the opposite! i need to gain weight and i do gym to eat a lot and it seems it is working these days. I am now 152lb and i used to be 120lb, 10 years ago (30 pounds in 10 years). But i still need to work on more breakfast habit.

I eat whatever i like and i love to eat but I’m one of those people who don’t gain that much weight. I lose more than i gain, for instance around my period i have no appetite that i have to force myself to eat. I lose weight around those days but i gain my appetite back right after that. I think for some people if they eat a lot they’ll gain but for some it’s different. I had a friend who doesn’t eat that much (once a day) but instead of losing she gain.
I am a foodie. I love food. I dont eat junk food. I love good food and wine. Food is sensual to me. I fluctuate between a size 10-12 (sometimes 14) I am 5’6 and I love my curves. We all can’t be skinny, that would be too boring, right? .

True you might slim down from eating less, but that is not the healthy way of doing it. I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. I was skinny for years and then I was overweight for 3 yrs. Now I’m in my ideal weight. I eat what I want, but also work out 4 to 5 days a week.
No preaching but “they” say the best way to healthy eating is to consume most of your calories in the early part of the day – so big breakfast, moderate lunch, light dinner & light snacks in between. Check out the Blue Zone ppl .. I found it quite faschinating & it reminded me the rural folks in eth and how strong they are!

Back in the day, my best friend & were trying to gain weight so bad that we used to drink lots of avocado juice after gym… someone told us it works but it didn’t LOL .. but we shouldn’t have bother as once metabolism starts slowing down, the pounds will start to pile

Minimal lunch is…. I try to take lunch to work, whatever i find in the fridge, mostly leftover from dinner but it is usually a small portion of whatever. My coworkers laugh at how small I eat for lunch.

not eating isn’t the answer. to the contrary eat at least six times a day – small portions though. it is increases your body metabolism – doing so helps you get rid off the fat and add some lean muscle.
I say eat rocks if it makes you feel healthy lol, as for me breakfast is a must, especially if you have a busy long day. I guess you can get away without it somewhat if you have 9-5 day and you eat big lunch, cuz I used to do that got away with it. But I havent met anyone who has long busy days and gets away with not eating breakfast. But now that my schedule has changed and my days are longer, If I skip breakfast, it is almost guarenteed I will crash at somepoint through out the day!!

To be honest Im one of those women Ethiopian women who eats a lot I am not ashamed to finish the whole plate or go for seconds most Ethiopian women eat so slow and like rabbits and play with their food and are constantley on a diet. If your hungry damn just eat who cares, how ever Im very active which explains the hunger pains and the fast metabolism. When Im full I feel like realsing that energy by running or dancing is it me or are some women like that? I dont go out my way to eat jumk food but sometimes you gotta have a burger so yummy. I feel really sorry for models as they are missing out on lifes best thing food!

In my defense, I am not trying to loose weight, nor to gain it. I love to eat. I eat breakfast, a heavy lunch and thus I avoid dinner. but that’s only during the work week. by the time i get home from work, eat and sleep…i dont have enough time to digest the food. yea, i’ve heard eat in smaller portions or a light dinner. when i eat, i eat a well. i dont do small portions. lol.
Anyone here do yoga or meditation? I’m trying to do one or the other or both but I don’t have any patient or i can’t concentrate. How is your experience like?

I’ve done both. Yoga takes less concentration. I thought it was gonna be this mindfulness exercise that will leave me at peace etc., but it was just another hard work out!! The impact on your body is great, but it feels weird till you catch the rythm. Meditation is h-a-r-d…you gotta find the mantra, cd, etc. that works for you. Try a bunch of different ones. Once i had a routine it was nice but it takes lots and lots of patience. I’ve never tried in person meditation studios, though.
I used to do Pilates three or four times a week(not lately though) and i love how it makes me feel and my body, flexble and light, i think i should continue doing that. I’ve never really done yoga, but i heard a lot of good things about it. I just want to do something for the mind. I’m going to buy the dc for meditation and try, i hope it works.

Oh God! talk about meditation…i used to be so upset with myself for not being able to concentrate… i did that for about 1 year/ even with teachings and early mornings, but it is always a struggle for me to focus.. i finally stopped due to conflicts in schedule. but yeah it’s so hard for me to totally give in and focus.
weight loss- i thank God for my parents’ genes- i don’t have to struggle- i am fit and healthy. i’m not much of a foodie but i love GOOD food, love to try out different cuisines. i don’t snack, i don’t have cravings, don’t use food as comfort.
exercise- i feel good whenever i work out though not consistently, boy i see my body getting toned and stuff but too busy to keep up.. i do walk for about one hour instead- 5 days a week. don’t have parking space at my work. that works out for me

habesha women are obssessed with weight. every other conversation leads back to weight and the skinny bit(hs get a high off of talking about how fat they are, knowing full well that if you told them seriously that they’ve gained a lil weight they’d break down in tears.
a few associates of mine started drinking hot water with lemon….they heard some urban myth that it’d give you a flat stomach.
