They say a bunch of things. When a journey finally reaches a destination you graduate; apparently! Then what, ‘Quarter-Life Crises!‘ I went through it, and I am in consensus with Mr Ashe:

Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.

With that I would like to congratulate my little sister Tsilat on a journey started; an endless one.

Love the sis! The most dynamic person I know!

Even with the best global positioning systems and satellites we can never monitor/direct our journey; an advice from a man you recently finished his quarter-life crises on his way to his mid-life one!

    Nolawi,

    I am 26 and my big brother is 28. I already have my BA and anticipating my graduation in MHSA–Masters in Health Services Administration in October.
    What makes my brothers graduation unique is that he held off his education to help the family once we arrived to the states. Best of all, he just got married last month and we had a blast in Ethiopia…the best vacation ever, and it was nice to be home after a decade and it also made living in the states seem loneliness once I got to see the joy of all family members.
    He is blessed…a marriage in Ethiopia and graduation in the states….what more could one ask for. I am very proud to call myself his little sister while being a brides maid to his wife….fun stuff isn’t it. Hats off to the wife too….she made him the man he is today.
    All you guys out there, if you find yourself a nice girl…..hold on to her, cause believe me she will change your life for the best. If you lose her though, mostly you tend to let her go…….ah! Shame shame,……..you’ll cry inside, and believe me after that no other women could compare to her. Take note Nolawi…may be your next post will be on this topic…..:)

    I am sure Nolawi is a great role model and mentor.

    My younger brother graduated few weeks ago from college, and all I thought about during the graduation ceremony is our childhood fights. We used to argue and fight all the time. It was great to see him all grown up, done with college, and on his way to quarter life crisis.

    Congratulations to your family and friends who were by your side during this long journey!

    I apologize for the long post Bernosoch. I hope you all read it, laugh and be a little bit inspired to simply live.

    Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.

    Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don’t.

    Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees. You’ll miss them when they’re gone.

    Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else’s.

    Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don’t be afraid of it or of what other people think of it. It’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.

    Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.

    Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

    Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly.

    Get to know your parents. You never know when they’ll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings. They’re your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

    Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.

    Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel.

    Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

    Respect your elders.

    Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you’ll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out.

    Don’t mess too much with your hair or by the time you’re 40 it will look 85.

    Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

    But trust me on the sunscreen.”
