A company called FeedeliX is planning to offer a service via your cell phone carrier so that you may be able to text message in Amharic feedels. If you have Sprint, T-Mobil, Verizon or Cingular in the US; you may be able to use the service for a small fee. According to the website, the service seems like Geez Unicode fonts for the internet. It will be launched May 14th I hear.
What do you guys think? I think a service really worth checking out and even supporting. It’s a great feat not just from a technical but also afrom marketing angle; as making a deal with giants like Sprint and Verizon is an accomplishment in it self. It is showing us signs that the Ethiopian purchasing power in the US is growing. I suspect in the future we will see more giant organizations marketing directly to Ethiopians, in the last couple of years I have seen MoneyGram, and Calling Card corps advertise directly to Ethiopians. What’s next?

This is a great thing to hear and see come alive.I think it is more than a purchasing power. It is also business, explore the un used corner. Like with other languages, I wish microsoft takes the next step in cooprating Ge’ez in its future software so that ETns & ERns could benefitn from it. I think I have heard a faint rumour about that a while a go. Anyone who have heard about this?
yeah this is dope. It helps with the testn phase.
Finally a good news! Looks like technology breaks barriers. Kudo to the ETs who did this and best of luck for their success. I can see myself using their product…way cool….

Localization of microsoft office products to amharic would be a great feat…. kaleab
Amharic texting sounds great …. any thoughts on adding ‘emotions-icons’ using the famous ethiopic drawings? It would really be fun to see icons developed using the Sabawian drawings… (I always thought of the Nigiste Saba drawings -at sana hall in ghion hotel addis) and it would be unique and more meaningful and would certainly go with the amharic text.
good luck with the project and keep up the good job.
