an arousal of my pens 37 Comments

“All passengers aboard!!!”

Huh? That’s an odd blare to hear while sitting on a park bench. Yes, a park bench. I had convinced myself to go have a picnic with me – without the cliché basket and cloth that is. We didn’t even take any food. Just me, myself and the $3.29 notebook that came with its own tiny pen, we went and sat at Myers Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

As I walked down the stairs in St Kevin’s Arcade on my way to the park, I came across a middle aged lady who looked like she had been running up and down those stairs for the last hour. She was sweating like a fat man in a summer marathon. Oh step out of your PC self-righteous shadow now, will you?! When a man is fat, call him fat. If he has a problem with accepting the way he is, then he is a dolt who probably needs to lose weight but is too lazy to do so. That lady in sweats was probably once fat, until she made all her extra lipids piss through her skin, her thick skin. Fat men should learn from her.

Anyways, she came to the park after I sat down. I offered her my forced smile as she walked past me staring like she had just seen a striping nun. I was dressed ‘normal’ with my sweatpants, a T-shirt that said “Good Girls Do Bad Things” and an old scarf that said “I LOVE ETHIOPIA” wrapped around my neck. I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. I’m not fat, or anorexic for that matter.

Although, mind you, I think a few extra kgs on my hips might do wonders to my erotically dimmed existence. Maybe she sensed my dimmed corner. So she stared! I wanted to stare back too, but my sleep deprived eyes couldn’t be bothered. As soon as I delivered my coffee stained smile, I looked away from her. She turned around and continued walking towards the bridge when she realized she can’t pin her eyes on me if she was to keep walking.

Alrighty then, time to sit back and scratch this notebook ruthlessly. Nothing came to mind. Nothing aroused my tiny pen. Maybe if that lady was a man, it would have helped my tiny pen. Or maybe if I was a man, she would have aroused my tiny pen. Well, she is oddly attractive, to pens at least. Most of the pens I’ve held in the past all had a peculiar taste in women. I assumed this tiny one would be no different. A flock of undisciplined thoughts began to roam uncontrollably in my head. So I started drawing with no preconceived knowledge of what I was drawing. While doing that, I was telling my head to be more obedient of its own attempts to re-acquaint with virtuousness.

Alas! She’s back to stare at me again. Should I just get up and leave? No no, I can take one sweaty woman! Right? I’ve dealt with sweaty men and… well, nobody won. They were all losers to begin with anyway, as am I. Though I do, sometimes consider myself a winner. I’m not sure what else I’ve won so far, but I sure as hell have won my own heart! I do love me you know. And by the looks of it, this woman could be falling in love with me too! Uh-oh I’ve never been good with sharing myself. Ok, start a conversation and break the silence – here I go advising myself again.

Beautiful day, isn’t it?”

Was that really all I could come up with?! I mean, come on! This could be a potential soul mate I’m faced with. She’s tall. Man, she is almost abnormally tall! How come I just noticed this? Under her stain-fested white Nike singlet, her tits looked like a pair of water balloons that have leaked almost all their water away. I looked up at her, now with a scared smile that’s trying to appear as genuine as possible. She didn’t say a thing. She just kept staring at me.

You seem tired, have you been running for long?”

Now I’m trying to sound like I care. She still has the same blank stare. I did a pretend sneeze to look away from her and see if there was anyone else around in the park. Some witnesses may be? In case anything unpleasant was to take place. Now I’m seriously scared. Then I decided to be brave and look her straight in the eye. I did. She seems displaced, but somehow at peace with herself. Unlike my flock of undisciplined thoughts. Through her eyes, I could see that there was harmony in her head. She sniffled and ran away, giggling like a little girl.

It was my turn to stare at her. So I did. I watched her run up and down the park like some ecstatic schoolgirl. “All passengers aboard!!!” she screamed. Then she stood in the middle of the pathway and engaged herself in a serious conversation with a person I couldn’t see. She was laughing, as if that person was making jokes. About a minute later she adjusted her ponytail and continued to call on all passengers again.

I really wanted to get on board of whatever vehicle it was she was calling them to. I wanted to be a passenger and travel to her world. But at the same time, I was scared of her. She scared me, but she aroused my pen and shipped me back to my own world. For that I thank her.

    Doro,

You certainly can write. No doubt about that.

My only comment is you are a little too random for me. This article sounds more like a page in a big book than a blog entry. If you have noticed all the comments are about your writing style, which is magnificent without a question, but you want to have a topic as well that engages people.

I love your randomness, and the way you think minamin. You have a very unique way of looking at things. I loved everything you said on BP. But IMHO you also want to engage people in your topic as well because blogging is more fun with a lot of interactions.

All this in the name of BP love,

My bad, I wrote your name instead of mine. I meant to put your name in the addressing.

friends who’ve read this have questioned my sexual orientation

anyhoo… whatever y’all get out of them… i be interested to hear :D

“Through her eyes, I could see that there was harmony in her head. She sniffled and ran away, giggling like a little girl.”
    i love this line!

to me ur miss lady love :P is the stimulation, the ‘extreme’ expression [according to society] and freedom of spirit that catapults u to grasp UR reality, she makes u think, holds ur attention… she’s kinda like art embodied in a way. u love her, watch her, she’s ur muse, she affects u in some way… then u move on…

btw …great to have u back dorisha!! muah!

    no kiddin. hehe…really :) ??

  27. 27 Dinich

    Doro,

This might be the line that the sexual orientation comments are based on:

” This could be a potential soul mate I’m faced with. She’s tall. Man, she is almost abnormally tall! How come I just noticed this? Under her stain-fested white Nike singlet, her tits looked like a pair of water balloons that have leaked almost all their water away.”

But I took it as a random thought because I am used to your randomness but for the serious reader it definitely hints something else.

Overall, for me this article shows that you see things with your heart and not just your eyes and that you really know how to put them down in writing. You have made an intersting article out of one ordinary, probably boring occasion. That is the mark of a good observer/writer. I suggest you keep writing.

  28. 28 Ted

Well, I was going to question your sexual orientation as well. But then that will be the ordinary interpretation.

    Is it a squirrel???

    Great piece, though!
