oh so far 24 Comments

ethiopian distance

She told me that she finally found her soul mate, but he lived in California

mT’s setiyo, soul mates come only in close proximity!

Months later she told me; I was right he wasn’t the one after all.

I think I could woo the heart of anyone I want, call me a Guregna ‘chauvinist pig!’ Anyone could, it’s just a matter of persistence, I told a girl that and she later asked why I failed with her; ‘because distance got between us.’ My ‘woo’ can only stretch thus far!

It was either that or I didn’t want to try hard enough. I think no one wants to tries anymore. They just want a network of friends delivered through the mail. That is why a cluster of us are starting a networking group here in DC. Details coming soon!

No Missed Rendezvous;’ just distance issues!

Podcasted are two of my favorite songs that address this. I am finishing off Bizuye’s Fiker series, with this last song.

He told her to wait for him while he was away, he just forgot to come back; or something to that extent. It’s just sad!

The first podcast is Bizunesh Bekele‘s Frenj Ager Sathede; and the second podcast is Lemma Demissew‘s Adrashash Tèfabegn, in collaboration with the Army Band.

Two great songs for the price of none; enjoy!

Tell ‘em how it’s done. That is true for any person wanting to sincerely woo their love interest. LDR’s are a little tricky especially for Abeshoch because some live in remote locations where they have no lifeline to any other Abesha. It seems the web is the only connection for most so I’m happy to hear you’re putting together a network.

Btw I like the songs, especially the “Adrashash Tefabegn” because it reminds me of a story a few years back. :)

    sure, Guregna! chauvinist pig!

I think, no matter how hard one tries or how near the distance is if there is nothing to hold two persons together no amount of wooing or mooing could be the call to bring the other closer. Persistence can also be connsidered stalking and could hand you one of those restraining orders.

The songs are timeless, excellent choice! Enjoyed them very much.

Well, My boyfriends lives in Ethiopia, and I live in the states, he is my soulmate. soulmates exist in different continents.

    Nol,

Love sometimes is what happens to you as opposed to what you do….In that sense, you don’t get to choose where your soul mates comes from.

If your soul mate happens to be so far, I will borrow my mom’s saying….atamTaw new enji, alchlewim aybalim…

I completely agree with you Dinich.

    atamTaw new enji, alchlewim aybalim…

    Nice saying!

I really like the pic nolawi…especially the lady w/ the red abesha kemis, i love the ‘telet’….oh and sweet songs.

uffaa i love this line (in sarcasm), i don’t know if you could be “wooed” by random person..imagine a person you have no interest in, now what happens when that person tries to woo you, persistently that is….it turns to stalking or annoying (persistently annoying)…..just my thoughts….
but i agree on the LDR thing….i think it’s really hard to do….nice post nolisha.

    Nol Boy,

You are simply great! And Bernos is a fresh breath of air. Thanks for transporting me (and others) across time and distance. Keep up connecting us to our past. Thanks.

p.s. and those nicknames (dinich, etc) are so powerful they evoke memories and neighborhoods.

i went back to ethiopia like 10 years ago, when i was twelve, and they called me DINICH when i was walking in Merkato. I was 12 at the time and didn’t know why they were calling me that, but later i realized it was not an insult, well maybe.

    Dinich
Love never happens to you.You choose to make it happen. There are some things Godly that are completely out of our control,But falling in love is not one of them.Wanting to love and extreme love of yourself leads to uncontrollable love.

    Well..about long distance love
If it is a well established connection to begin with ,I think it can withstand any sort of distance and time.I hope we are not confusing sex and love here.

  13. 13 ANON

Why, Dinich is not an insult at all. In fact, it has charming derivatives depending on the person saying them and time of day. Here are some: dinu, dini, din, dinichwa, diniche, dinichachew, dinicho, dinichalem. I love them all.

    Nolawi……
How you make me think about the things I have gone through……. Let me share this with you ppl: my first long distance relationship-i was in Addis she was in the states- didnt work. Then I told myself that I would never do it again. Keza….yaw alkerelignim…..and got into another one. Doesnt work for me.

    Biscut;
You know what they say…. ‘ke aYn Ye RaQe, Ke Lib Ye RaQe’…..So the longer ppl stay apart from each other the further they grow apart. Enkuan relationship, you find out that you no longer click with your old friends no more if you dont see them for a while.

I think they were talking about chubby cheeks i had as i kid , and i have huge dimples.

You know Biskute no matter how well the connection established is, often times the reket does make it difficult to maintain a lasting relationship
…especially if the time apart is substantial. When you are megacheting (as is a nature of any relationship), run into argument minamin it makes it that much easier to say “fuck this” and call it quits with out the much needed effort (needed to establish and maintain a working relationship) when the person is not in your face and near you to duke it out and work at it (whatever ‘it’ is). As I heard my wise mom say “merarak sibeza nefas yegebal“. From my own experience I beat the awlo nefas :) but trust me it is best to close the gaps sooner whenever possible, particularly if you see a greater potential in the relationship and if you are convinced the sacrifice or the compromise is, in the longer ran, worth the gamble you undertake and most importantly fes kuk yemiyasderg fiker keyaze :)

well, usually its about opening yourself up…. i noticed woman say these when they do not give the simple guy next to you a chance….
