one guy asked me if i could introduce him to celebrate life because he was crazy in love with her…
one guy kissed me on the cheek and wished me a happy ny…. i was so shocked… and i thought it was a french thing cuz he came from paris to party in DC…

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Celebration. Out here in Denver, well it started out with a freezing new year’s eve night (it feels like the air you breez freezes in the inside of your nose type of cold…)a group of friends, about 9 or 10, myself included decided to stay indoors and lift the champaign for the count down. Everbody else went out around town to celebrate despite the sore teste in their mouth losing to the 49ers leading to Broncos elimination from the 06-07 playoffs. But the city was stunned waking up in the morning with a terrifying news that one of Denver’s favorite (certainly my one of the best) players in the team CB Darrent Williams shot and killed in a drive-by. Just 24 years old. He was teaching kids to stay of gangs and he became a victim of gunfire himself. It just made me realize life is too short to not to live it purposefully- I promised myself right then and there I’ll change my attitude. What’s the purpose of my existence in the world if I’m living just for myself?

DC…Saturday night @ Heritage…Grrreat! R DC guys always that friendly or is it the alcohol? And they flirt like craZy! One guy was doing it over the top, so I bluntly asked, ‘where is your girl?’ besaak mote inna, said ‘she didn’t want to come out tonight. I just wish I met you five months ago. but please be at the Union Station party tomorrow night’…ow my! C what I mean? It was my turn to play their game next. The next professional flirt ended up carrying my coat all night while I enjoyed the party. Met Nolawi, was introduced to Tobian (nice girl),…..anddddddd met Toothpick! OWow, Toothpick was, to put it simply, surrounded by the girls
Got a CD from Teferri….couldn’t promise a VIP listing for the next day but promised ‘no line outside’ or that I’ll get in free. Was good enough for me.
Was BeTaam ariff party …danced, screamed, laughed, drunk and hugged like there was no tomorrow. And after a day and a half, still motchalew:)
New Year’s Eve at Union Station was the best! Had a blast! Out of the many, I saw this gorgeous guy at the bar with two girls (strict principle, I don’t go after a ‘taken’ man…I respect my sisters so much). But he was staring even as they talked to him…so, I figured must be friends or sisters minamin. He smiled, I smiled back. When we picked our drinks and walked away..he followed us. I glanced back to see if he’s coming (don’t even know why) was right behind us and he gave me a signal to come outside and walked to the door. hmm..I just went upstairs with my friends……couldn’t do it! But this Bernos thing is getting me..I asked myself ‘Missed Rendezvous?’ Maybe! But what’s the use.. I am not even looking for anybody. Yet, can’t help appreciating how good looking he was..tsss
Was wonderful seeing Nol and Toothpick again. DavidK was there (I was told), Toothpick was going to show me from a distance….waited at a corner with Toothpick but didn’t see David (sorry, Sahanti…) laughed about it and gave up. Chelema was supposedly in DC…told us he’d get us VIP tickets for LOVE’s fashion show (Didn’t)….said he’ll try to be at the party (Wasn’t)…will leave you guys to decide if he was in DC

nice…nice…nice…to hear everybody had a beautiful New Year’s. mine was the best at least for myself. Before when ppl asked me my new year’s resolution my answer used to be to drink more, smoke more and more girls… I just changed that and quit smoking at 11:59,drunk my last champagne at 12:01…and went out jogging at 12:15 till 1:00…with the help of God that will be my plan for ‘07. From working out every day, I’ve been spoiled to two or three times a week. ’07 might be one of the years to go back what I liked to do, it looks like I am doing good for the last huh…two days no smoke(after 15 years of smoke), no booze, coffee, or even diet coke just water and home made juice.

Mitmita, Hope you had a great holiday! Girl I overdosed on club partying, in the past, so I’m just not that into it now but I love house parties and that’s how we celebrated our new years. The fireplace was lit, good food, good music, we laughed til it hurts and all my favorite people were there it was a fabulous night.

i heard about the cadavez party the night before… as i was stepping amout of the club.. what is the dj name.. menge came and told me that cadavez was on tomorrow.. and the marketing pitch was… older crowd older crowd.. how did he know i like to party with shemageles and arrogitoch?
For years on New Years Eve I would always party like it’s either the last party of the year or the first party of the coming year.

It’s the end of the holiday season and the last day of the year. I don’t know about you guys, but I was feeling kind of tired. So for me this year deserved something more personal, more special. I didn’t want to go out to have a good time. I wanted to welcome the New Year while sharing a few laughs and good food with friends, but I also wanted to relax and feel cozy this New Year’s Eve. As a result, this year my friends and I decided to allow the party to come to us, by hosting a cozy New Year’s bash at home, surrounded by family and friends. We had the menu to help us entertain with elegance and ease: appetizers to get us going, a lavish special-occasion super that didn’t keep us in the kitchen all day/night, and sophisticated desserts that were as simple as it was sweet.
So we rose our glasses high and said “Cheers” to an unforgettable evening. Six, five, four, three, one…Happy New Year!

!!!!! Quite a blast? Naaaaaaaaa. Unforgettable???? Sure. But I treated my new year’s eve as I would have treated any other weekend of mine. Mixed a lot of business with a lot of pleasure. I wouldn’t have been to DC if I didn’t have a business interest to be there. I would have partied my ass out either here in Chicago or somewhere else exotic. May be the cruise ship to the Bahamas. Well, I met up with old college buddies of mine (majority of African Americans, and some whites) for a fraturnity reunion somewhere in George town, met up with one of my old college sweetheart, and flurted with her a little (interesting story), and Sunday night, partied at Love, the club but didn’t get laid unfortunately. I heard of the Union station party but wasn’t interested in going to it. Like I said, I was mixing business with pleasure.
Interesting thing that happened, ….I got introduced to an upcoming comedian from BET, made out with one chick on Saturday night at a bar(I should have taken her number down). That was pretty much it. The count down, I don’t even remember as I was too drunk already.
No new year’s resolution for me. All I know is beginning the Ethiopian Mellinnium, I will be entertaining you people with my works on the big screen. That is 100% certain. 2007, is a year of progress and a year of a lot of preparation for me.

well while everyone partied it up for the new years, i was at church…yes at CHURCH! it is a family honored tradition that anyone belonging to the Shalom family or having any blood affiliation must be in attendance at the Ethiopian Evangelical Church in DC! I am proud to say that Bernos was well represented! In case you wondered what went on for the 6 hours i was there, there was prayer of course, followed by worship, then a performance (female), then the choirs performed, then another performance (male…poor guy lost his voice…he was great nevertheless), then a video recapping the past year and plans for the future year, then the SERMON, and then finally the candle light vigil while counting down the seconds for 2007. Where was I and what did I do for New Years Eve.
Lets see:
Excuse #1 – Interlude to Nonsense… need I say more?
Excuse #2 – DK, watching you dance with that girl you call your “girlfriend” on NY eve… drove me to drink, which forced me to be admitted to a detox center ever since. My counselor says you need to pick one or the other – your girlfriend or lovely “virtual” wife, MOI.
Excuse #3 – I was out fulfilling my New Year resolution (first time ever) – I needed to get over this addiction of logging into Bernos from every possible place. I had a week of that support group and they drove me back into it… it was a weak group; they had folks with silly addictions like drugs, etc.
Excuse #4 – I partied like crazy. I went to a very nice but casual African nightclub with some good friends. The club was ethnically diverse and I loved it. The music was amazing… the DJ knew exactly what needed to be played… no Teddy Afro but lots of West African music, salsa, etc. Met a hunk of a man (Abesha no less) with a British accent. Ladies… he was fine, mega fine, not just his looks but also the conversation we had was out of this world. He took me on a journey all over the world, twice over. I did not realize there were Abesha men like that, ever? I have very limited experience with Abesha men, so please excuse my ignorance here. It is only lately that I am coming back to my roots… so be patient with me.
Anyway, the ending was not so good… he lives in London and so I decided the best way for us to keep in touch for now would be via email. I was to go out of town the next day for a couple of days, so I wrote down my email address on a piece of napkin to give to him “later”. Anyway, at the end of the night we said good night and I left while he went to meet up with his friends and cousin (the drinker of the group) at the bar. I reached home and while getting ready for bed, I pulled out this napkin and Voilà … there was that napkin with my email address
Needless to say… I’m very sad but glad that I had the opportunity to meet such a promising man…

I forgot to mention the funniest part of our gift exchange for X-mas I gave some Bernos t’s to some of my friends and two of them had bought the same exact designs I gave them. They said, debari how the hell do you buy us what we already have (w/humor of course) then they had to exchange the designs with each other – a true gift exchange.
Chelema, you were a frat boy? Did you guys do the step dance? My friends and I were invited to some alumni black frat party and when they did the step dance I just about lost my mind. I just love it the stomping, the clapping, the yelling it’s amazing.

Nolawi- stop hating on the pente church. FYI the overnight service began as a solution to those who might not have anything to do on NY eve because everyone is out partying. I believe some years back the pastor decided to have an overnight service so that penetes can also celebrate western NY (um…worshiping instead of partying…direct quote from the pastor). besides there are many overnight serives at the church. i believe there is one every friday night actually.

Wudisha, sweetie… I never made it to church last night. I prayed from home, like I usually do. Something about going to church in the middle of the night just never made much sense to me, especially for 5-6 hours? I have issues with the whole ordeal… but, it’s my issue and I’m dealing with it!
My dearest, god fearing and loving grandma would just flip if she heard what I think of it all… she’d without a doubt blame my parents and the fact they took me away from her and choose to raise me abroad for all my “shortcomings” – I love it, haha
As for my residence, I’m not from Denver… never been there, way too cold from what I hear. But, if you are inviting me… I will be there
I travel a lot for work and at the moment, I divide my time between 3 States – CA, OR and WA sometimes AZ as well. Cali being my fav.
Now, if DK ever makes up his mind then we would be able to settle down somewhere and call “Wonderland” our home, but he is so indecisive.

Shanti, you are just a burst of energy and positive as hell. The reason I tell you there are very interesting Abesha men is cause there are and you’re right when you least expect it they’re wham bam in your face. Girl I see more of them now, in my area, then ever. I think the missed rendezvous/Love at 1st sight articles have messed us up for life. They’re out there and yes they do exist….we just have to stop all the haters from downing the Ethio men and see them for what they are – charming creatures. I had an AA friend who used to try and say it without an accent but, oh lord, it took on a whole new meaning…nayfese…I finally had to tell him to stop in the name of love and stick to English.
