Dang Mik, don't be so angry. As a habesa woman marrying a white guy, I want to say something. It might not be that they all prefer other ethnicities over habeshas. It just might be a matter of personal interest. It is really hard to generalize so much and say all habesha girls this, all habesha girls that. It is true, culture has a lot to do with "mating" rituals and similar to all immigrant communities, habeshas struggle with self identity. Do we do as the Romans do or do we retain our cultural distinction? etc.
Habesha women also struggle with the double standard that haunts most women around the world. What would yagere lij think of me if I agree to a date on first encounter? Whereas with nech or black guys, that stigma is minimal. You see what I am saying?

I will tell you what I know for sure though. From my own experience, I have never dated anyone just to date them (habesha or not). I love Ethiopian guys but I don't like how some of them feel entitled to ask me out just because I am habesha. We are all individuals, we have interests and different personalities. If I am just a habesha girl to you, and that's the only reason you would want to talk to me; I would say no thank you. There is more to us than our ethnicity. Try to get to know us as individuals and not just as a potential mate.

P.S. Good job on this Nolawi, five years later people are still talking this :)

IF YOU THINK I AM JUST NOT MAKING SENSE, BE HONEST AND NEXT TIME AROUND WHEN YOU GO OUT ON THE STREET OR A BAR OR AN EVENT, LOOK WHEN AN HABESHA GIRL REACTS WHEN SOME ONE WHO IS NOT HABESHA APPROACHED HER ..EVEN JUST TO ASK DIRECTION OR WHATEVER THE CASE MIGHT BEE. AND THEN OBSERVE WHEN THEY ARE APPROACHED BY THEIR OWN GUY AND SEE HO THEY REACT ...... ESPECIALLY IN THE HABESHAS THAT ARE IN DC AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS ALL WHAT YOU PROBABLY KNOW, YOU JUST IS NOT READY TO ADMIT IT.
BUT THE THINGS OTHER PEOPLE KNOW THIS VERY WELL, AND IT IS A SHAME AS ANA HABESHA, I HAD RATHER BEEN FROM A COLONIZED COUNTRY.
AS FAR AS THE GUYS YOU HAVE YOUR OWN SHARE AS WELL.

@ Tsedey:

You know bytch, the type like you who so used to the white man and the black approach are the one who give a bad name to the other Ethiopian women, who appreciate their country men.

First off, sorry, I don't think any decent Ethiopian man would like to hook up with you, let alone mess with the type of you who is a damaged goods of no value. So think what you are saying, before you shit from both side. LAMO

Interesting comments here. We all have an opinion, some based on personal experiences, others based solely on whats passed on by friends.

I can NOT speak about the difficulties in dating DC born or raised Ethiopian women, Never met one from there. I have dated more than a few both in Ethiopia and some who worked in other countries outside of the States. Before I met my now wife(Ethiopian), I am African American, I never had a problem with actually getting a date with a Ethiopian woman or any other African woman for that matter. Although I must admit that the Ethiopian women I have experience with were surprisingly strong minded, very hip to the game, and could basically smell BS from 10 miles away. Most, I have met & dated were extremely private when it came to sharing personal info about themselves, their family and friends.....Not really defensive, more like,,,,,,overly reserved.

Ethiopian women carry around a lot of pride, I like that! Someone wrote in an earlier post about his wife, after ten years of marriage, and three kids being even better than she ever was, I think it's true.

My wife and I argue, who doesn't!! When she says; I will tell you something, and then lays her opinion out, I know she is right. My way is to say "I am sorry" when I am wrong, She, on the other hand will not, at least not with words, but I hear it just the same through her actions of cooking me my favorite meal the next day, taking me out to do something she knows I really love, etc. It used to get to me until I realized that actions speaks louder than words anyway, so except her way of giving a sincere "sorry" the same as she excepts mine.

Just about the only thing my wife demands is that (1) I keep my **** in my pants, (2) I bring my *** home at night, (3) I do not disrespect her or bring shame upon her or her family, and (4) Be my own man. In return, your getting a beautiful wife who hates divorce, looks out for your best interest, will follow your financial plan....if it's not a foolish one, provides the cleaniest, most well kept home, will overly feed you...so go ahead and renew that gym membership! And who will learn and provide exactly what you like in the bedroom.

Look, for those guys out there who are looking for an Ethiopian woman, you better ask yourself if its really what you want and for what reason(s), because they are extremely passionate about their perception of WHOLE love. If so, then spend as much quality time as you can getting to know Ethiopians, their amazing history, and beautiful culture. Sample various food dishes, believe me, your gf or wife will be serving you Ethiopian foods throughout the week. If your living in the States, seek out Ethiopian Americans who are willing to teach you some words in Amharic, then take a trip to Ethiopia. Remove dating an Ethiopian from your mind, this way you can just relax and enjoy the full experience of something new. You never know, you could be vacationing in Ethiopia and just around the corner, you unexpectedly meet a beautiful Ethiopian woman or even one of some other nationality that blows your mind away.

PEACE.....

Most, I have met & dated were extremely private when it came to sharing personal info about themselves, their family and friends…..Not really defensive, more like,,,,,,overly reserved.

Hi people, quite an interesting topic indeeed.Glad also that i got in to this site out of the necessity to know more about Ethiopian ladies.

btw i am kenyan, and am currently in Nairobi
And so it happened that yesterday , i met this Ethiopian gal here in Nairobi, she was going to see her boyfriend who is a student of where i used to school(University of course)

As we talked, i told her of my wishes to date an ethiopian gal, she told me she cant hook me up/introduce me to some of her ethiopian girls here in Kenya who are her friends. But she told me she cant promise, .

So i got her number.. wow!! what a sunday,.The lady was astonishly beautiful, I asked her about Haile Selaise(the only thing i know abt Ethiopia..duh..)

So my questions to you is..

Since this gorgeous lady i met was going to see her boyfriend. do i ask her out?

Or how do i go about it to get her introduce me to some of her Ethiopian gal friends here in Kenya,.??

What do i need to know about this ladies from Ethiopia..so that my advances don't hit a wall.

I must say however, that the reason am thinking of dating an Ethiopian girl is purely coz they look beautiful, also i want the thril i would get to date an Ethiopian girl.. if things work then,.....well who knows...

But my concern is ,, how do i play my games right so that i get this Ethiopian girls to be my friends,,, ?? or how do i handle this girl i met yesterday to make sure she introduces me to her friends...

After reading this blog, I came to conclude that their is a lack of a semblance of connection, between the men and the women, though you all are from the same country. It is amazing to me, how it is possible, there is such disregard that exist between the two sexes. One seems that coming out from the a traditional society, I think the women are looking for someone who has a stable, well paying job to make feel secure to hook with him. Obviously, you find some of these women tragically gravitating toward other race, white being their main choice and others races being quite behind, hence it seems the underlining reasons, why it is hard for Ethio. men to hook up with them.

There are some men, who go back and import them. From my close observation, it has a very tragic, since the expectation and and the frame of reference are quite different. My suggestion is, why don't you look for other African ladies, rather than trying to hook up with these women.
